Children can be under tremendous amounts of stress from days in school or our hectic city life, whilst often being less physically active than previous generations. Gentle yoga practice helps children to become more relaxed, self aware and focussed, whilst encouraging them to enjoy their natural flexibility. The classes start with some simple breathing  techniques [pranayama] which calm the nervous system, and help the children to connect with their feelings and cope with the stresses of every day life. This is followed by warm up exercises, and simple hatha yoga sequences, represented as animals /stories for smaller children. These movements encourage good flexibility, strength, and stamina. Holding the poses helps the child to focus and the mind to settle, aiding concentration. 
The classes end with a short guided relaxation and visualisation, where the children lie down, listen, and have the opportunity to completely relax and unwind.  Visualisation stimulates imagination and also helps to encourage a peaceful night’s sleep.

The classes are non competitive and always fun, whilst teaching children to become more accepting of themselves and others.
